關於蘆薈

蘆薈「Aloe」源自於阿拉伯文中「Alloeh」，意是指「一種閃亮的苦味物質」，原產於地中海、非洲，為獨尾草科多年生草本植物。

蘆薈的品種

雖 然蘆薈種類可細分為200多種，經衛生署核定可去皮食用的只有六種，包括非洲蘆薈（Aloe africana）、木立蘆薈（Aloe arborescens）、芒蘆薈（Aloe ferox Mill）、好望角蘆薈（Aloe perri）、女王錦蘆薈（Aloe spicata） 及翠葉蘆薈（Aloe barbadensis），其中又以翠葉蘆薈葉片最為碩大，含有豐富膠質。
翠葉蘆薈也稱為純種蘆薈（Aloe Vera）或洋蘆薈，大多生產在美國德州和佛州里達州等溫暖地帶，它的葉子有長矛型、尖點型、以及鋸齒型三種，葉片中所含的特殊泥膠質，是天然滋潤劑之一。

蘆薈葉

蘆薈葉可分為內層及皮層兩部分，蘆薈內層組織是透明、有黏性和植物性香味的凝膠，包含有超過200種以上的營養成分，其中包括20種礦物質、18種胺基酸與12種維生素。
成熟蘆薈葉片可重達1.5-3磅，葉片最寬處達4-5吋，若是生長環境的土壤、氣候不佳，將直接影響蘆薈葉片，不但葉片變小，凝膠亦較少。
蘆薈的厚皮層的外皮導管中則含有蘆薈素及大黃素，易導致過敏，因此外皮不能使用，為中醫所謂大寒大苦之物質，在過去被當作瀉藥，因此許多人誤認蘆薈是一種有毒物質。所幸這種黃色汁液在蘆薈的透明凝膠中幾乎不存在，蘆薈對人體最大的益處就存在於此透明凝膠中。

蘆薈花

蘆薈的底部成薔薇花型底座，每年初春、蘆薈中央部份會長出花狀莖，頂端則會長出一叢叢黃色或微紅的管狀花苞，此花苞會綻放出一朵朵藍紫色的美麗花朵，這就是蘆薈花。
一般蘆薈生長兩年以上才會開花，且需在充足水分、光照、較高溫度、及良好的健康生長要件才能開花。
